Can I change surfboards when I'm renting one?

You can change boards at the shop during your rental, including a one-hour rental, regardless of the rental duration. Please choose from the boards available for rent at the shop at the time of the change. Please ask our staff if you would like to change boards. For board changes, the highest rate among the boards you use, for the same rental duration, applies to the entire rental period. You pay only the difference from the amount already paid, if any. There is no additional charge for a board at the same rate, and no refund when changing to a lower-priced board. Changing boards does not change your original return time.

Do I need to pay for damage to a surfboard?

Yes, please pay the following: USD 15 for damage to 1 fin,
USD 50 for repairable damage and USD 500 for irreparable damage to the surfboard.
Please check your travel insurance before you travel - it may cover costs for these damages.

These prices are examples. If you damage a board, please contact us as soon as possible.

Can I rent a motorcycle surfboard rack when I rent a surfboard?

We have bicycles with surf racks available for rent.

Same-day rental (return by 5:00 PM on the day of pickup): 100,000 VND
24 hours: 200,000 VND
Extension: 100,000 VND for each additional 24 hours

*Please note: Riding a motorbike without a valid license is illegal for foreigners in Vietnam, so we do not recommend it.

Can I pick up and return my rental surfboard at my hotel?

We are sorry, but we do not offer hotel delivery or collection for rental surfboards.

Please pick up and return your surfboard at our shop during opening hours, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Thank you for your understanding.

What happens when the weather is bad?

We operate in light rain, but will cancel in case of strong winds, heavy rain, thunder, and hurricanes.

Are there restrooms and showers on the beach?

At our main shop, lesson and rental customers can use the showers, changing rooms, lockers, and towels at no additional charge. Toilets are also available at the main shop.

There are no showers, changing rooms, toilets, or lockers at the beach house. These facilities are available only at our main shop.

When traveling to a surf spot for a lesson or tour, toilets, showers, and lockers may not be available at the destination.

Can I join a lesson if I cannot swim?

If you cannot swim or are not confident in the water, please consult us before booking.

Our staff will assess your comfort in the water and the sea conditions on the day, then decide whether you can participate safely. Participation is subject to staff approval and is not guaranteed. If safe participation is not possible, we will not proceed with the lesson.

Are there age restrictions?

Children aged 9 and under (including 9-year-olds) may participate subject to prior consultation. All of the following conditions must be met:

1. The child is comfortable in the water and is not afraid of it.
2. A parent or guardian accompanies the child to the beach. The parent or guardian is not required to enter the water.
3. The waves and sea conditions on the day are very calm and safe.

Our staff will assess the child and the sea conditions on the day and make the final decision on participation. Please consult us in advance. Depending on sea conditions, the lesson may be cancelled or postponed, including on the day.

We do not have an upper age limit. Please participate at your own risk.

If I am injured, what can you do to help?

In the case of a minor injury, we can provide first aid at our shop. If you need to go to a hospital, we will take you to a nearby hospital.

If you are using overseas travel insurance, please inform the hospital.

What time does my lesson start?

We arrange your lesson schedule based on your availability and the wave conditions. Please choose your preferred start time between 8:30 AM and 2:00 PM (Vietnam time).

Bookings are handled on a first-come, first-served basis. If your preferred time is already booked, we will ask you to choose another time.

We particularly recommend the morning, when conditions tend to be more stable.

How do I pay?

Please pay in advance at our shop on the day by cash or credit card. We accept Vietnamese dong, Japanese yen, and US dollars.

For payments in Japanese yen or US dollars, no change is given and the amount is rounded up.

Currency exchange fees apply to payments in Japanese yen or US dollars, so we recommend paying in Vietnamese dong.

What should I wear?

Please wear swimwear or a wetsuit. Wetsuit rental is not included in the lesson fee and costs an additional 100,000 VND per person.

We recommend that women who would like extra coverage bring a rash guard and shorts.

We have a changing room at our shop, so you are welcome to change there.

If you plan to spend time at the beach after your lesson or prefer to shower at your hotel, you are welcome to arrive in your swimwear and leave in it after the lesson.

What do I do with my valuables?

Lockers are available at our shop for storing your valuables. Please leave the locker key with our staff.

Showers and towels are also available.

We can also store your suitcase before hotel check-in or check-out. Please ask our staff at the shop.

Please tell me about cancellation fees.

Our lesson cancellation policy is based on the scheduled lesson start time:

• At least 24 hours before: Free cancellation. Your deposit will be refunded in full.
• Less than 24 hours before: Your paid deposit is non-refundable.

The same terms apply to cancellations due to illness or other personal reasons.

If Surf Shack cancels the lesson due to weather or sea conditions, a full refund will be provided.

How can I start surfing?

Surfing is generally available year-round. We take seasonal wave patterns, the conditions on the day, and your experience into account when advising you. Surfing may not be possible depending on the sea conditions.

Our surfing lessons are held in small groups with attentive guidance. Photos taken during your lesson are provided free of charge. Please speak to our staff before you leave to receive your photo data. Please note that photography may not be possible depending on the sea conditions and staff availability on the day.

SUP Availability

SUP experiences and rentals are available only from June to August, on days when the waves are flat. Even during this period, our staff will assess the sea conditions on the day and make the final decision on whether the activity or rental can proceed safely. SUP is not available when conditions are unsafe.

A change from a SUP experience to a surfing lesson will be made only after consulting you and receiving your agreement.

Do I need a wetsuit in Da Nang?

These are general guidelines. Conditions vary by year and day, and comfort levels vary from person to person.

• November: Wetsuit jacket to short-sleeve spring suit
• December: Short-sleeve spring suit to long-sleeve spring suit
• January: Long-sleeve spring suit to full wetsuit
• February: Full wetsuit to short-sleeve full wetsuit

Are UV rays strong in Da Nang?

UV rays are strong, so protection such as sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses is important.

Where are the best surf spots in Da Nang and at My Khe Beach?

Da Nang and My Khe Beach have beach breaks, so the best surf spots change with the wave size and sandbar conditions.

What is the payment method?

We accept bank transfers, QR payments, and online card payments.

How much is the shipping fee?

Surfboards are delivered to your home in Vietnam by Sagawa Express. Shipping costs are quoted individually based on the board size and delivery destination. Please tell us which board you would like and your delivery destination.

The shipping quote includes packing fees. Shipping insurance is optional. If you choose insurance, the insurance fee is charged separately.

Other items will be shipped via Vittel post etc.

Will I receive a tracking number?

We will send you a tracking number when your package is shipped. You can track your package by entering this number on the shipping company's website.

How long will it take for my order to arrive?

Delivery to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City is expected within approximately 1 to 2 weeks, depending on the delivery status.

Is the surfboard insured? 

Shipping insurance is optional. Please let us know whether you would like to add it. If you choose insurance, the insurance fee is charged separately from the shipping quote, which includes packing fees.

What if the surfboard is broken?

If your surfboard arrives damaged, please contact Surf Shack promptly.

Is it possible to ship overseas?

Delivery is available only within Vietnam. We do not ship overseas.

Can I return the item?

Returns are accepted only if the product is defective.

Please contact Surf Shack within 5 days of receiving the product.

For returns of defective products, Surf Shack will cover the return shipping costs.

We do not accept returns due to a change of mind or other customer-related reasons.

Can other products and surfboards be shipped together?

In some cases, other items can be included at no additional shipping cost. You can also order accessories such as deck pads, fins, and leashes, as well as clothing.
